How to Lose Weight Eating Ice Cream, Cookies and Chocolate Every Day

Confusion over food is at an all time high. I'll bet you really don't know what you should or shouldn't eat anymore to lose weight. No matter what food you choose you can find a reason not to eat it. You can also find a reason to eat just about anything you like as well.

Cookies And Cream Protein

So at the moment trans fats are bad, worse than saturated fats, however there are dozens of different kinds of saturated fats that have very different effects in your body (not all of which are bad).

Cookies And Cream Protein

Are carbs currently good or bad right now? And while we're at it, I guess we should point out that not all carbs the same, but does that really matter? And do we need to know the difference?

Protein is still good isn't it? But where do we get protein from?

Isn't it good to be a vegetarian? Vegan? What about dairy? Do I really need to drink milk? Can't I just get all my nutrients from a supplement?

These are just some of the issues I'm sure you've struggled with if you've taken any time to read about food and nutrition lately. And it gets way more confusing if you read any of the diet and weight loss recommendations. But you're in luck; I've spent about 10 years researching this and have realized the answer to weight loss is very simple. I can even tell you how to do it in 7 words, here goes.

Eat fewer calories than you burn off.

So that's it. It doesn't matter what kind of calories you eat, can be cookies and chocolate ice cream all day as long as you eat less calories than you burn off. This is obviously easier said than done, but it is in fact the only way to lose weight. This can also be a combination of doing more exercise and eating less to achieve a deficit of calories.

Now with that said I believe that most if not all popular diets fail because they try to tell you what to eat and what not to eat. But most people and I would guess you too, don't want to be told what you can and can't eat. I'll bet you want to know how to lose weight and still eat what you like. Well I think I've got the answer.

I've discovered a way to eat what you like and still lose weight. It involves taking short breaks from food. Weight loss doesn't happen overnight. It takes weeks and months to see lasting weight loss results. The trick is to eat fewer calories over time. You can do this by having very low calorie days throughout your week mixed in with 'regular' calorie days.

Basically you eat what you like, when you like, and how much you like most of the week, and then you mix in one or two days of eating very little. That's it. Author Brad Pilon has outlined how to do this in his new book Eat Stop Eat

I've been following this program for about 11 months with great success and now I recommend it to all of my clients. I suggest giving this new program a try; I guarantee it's unlike any other diet you've ever read. I believe this is the only sustainable way to lose weight and enjoy food guilt free.

Whole Wheat Chocolate Chip Cookies

I love chocolate chip cookies - I mean I LOVE chocolate chip cookies! When I thought about all of the things that I love in a cookie, I started playing around with my favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe and came up with this one. I wanted to make it a little more "healthful", a little more substantial and less sweet. The addition of oats, whole wheat pastry flour and wheat germ make this a stand-out that doesn't taste like a "healthy" cookie.

Cookies And Cream Protein

This cookie always wins rave reviews in my "Baking With Whole Grains" classes. Especially from moms who are trying to make healthier treats for their kids and introduce them (sometimes without their knowledge) to whole grains. While this is still a cookie - it still has eggs, butter and sugar - it also has some really great additions that help it to rise above the "regular" chocolate chip cookie. The whole wheat flour, oats and wheat germ are packed with fiber, b vitamins, and antioxidants and getting them in cookie form can't be all that bad!:)

Cookies And Cream Protein

You can use either whole wheat pastry flour or white whole wheat flour in these cookies with equal success. Regular 100% whole wheat flour is too heavy for these. What's the difference? A lot of my students ask that and it's less confusing than it seems. Basically it boils down to protein content. Think of the protein (or gluten) content in flour as the structure. The higher the protein, the stronger and more resilient the structure is (think chewy artisanal breads and pizza dough). Less protein results in a softer structure (cakes, muffins and cookies, for example).

So, which flour should you use in your favorite cookie recipe? It's a matter of taste. The whole wheat flour we're used to, the stuff that produces dense, chewy, tangy loaves is milled (ground) from what is called "hard red winter wheat". It has a high protein content and distinctive color and flavor. It is great for all kinds of yeasted breads and doughs and some quick breads and muffins. White whole wheat flour and whole wheat pastry flour are milled from soft spring wheat which is lower in protein and therefore produces a more tender, less chewy product than whole wheat flour. It is still a "whole" grain (meaning the bran and germ have not been stripped away), just a little softer and easier to incorporate into baked goods. Most recipes using whole wheat flour will specify which type of flour to use.

You can find white whole wheat flour and whole wheat pastry flour in your local supermarket in the baking section (look for brands such as King Arthur Flour, Bob's Red Mill or Hodgson Mill) and at Whole Foods and your local food co-op (both of these usually have it in bulk as well).

I like a less sweet cookie and usually use just about 1 cup packed light brown sugar and 1/8 - 1/4 cup cane sugar. The sweet nuttiness of the oats and toasted wheat germ add sweetness to the cookie, making it easy to decrease the sugar. I use evaporated cane juice which is a healthier alternative to refined sugar. Evaporated cane juice does not undergo the same processing that refined sugar does and therefore maintains most of its nutrients and more importantly, eliminates unwanted chemicals. Look for evaporated cane juice or pure cane sugar at Trader Joe's, Whole Foods and your local food co-op.

And here's the best part of this article, the recipe!

Whole Wheat & Oat Chocolate Chip Cookies
1 1/2 cups unbleached all-purpose flour
3/4 cup whole wheat pastry flour
3/4 cup quick oats
1/4 cup toasted wheat germ
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
1 cup packed light brown sugar
1/4 - 1/2 cup evaporated cane juice (cane sugar)
2 large eggs
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 cup walnuts (optional)

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Place oven racks in upper and lower third of the oven. Line 2 baking sheets with parchment and set aside.

Sift dry ingredients together. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, until fully incorporated. Stir in vanilla. Add about 2/3 of the dry ingredients to creamed mixture, blending well. Toss chocolate chips and nuts (if using) in the rest of the dry flour mixture and then add to the creamed mixture. Stir well to combine.

Drop by spoonsful onto prepared baking sheets and place on racks. Bake 6-7 minutes then rotate pans from top to bottom racks. Bake another 6-7 minutes until golden and almost set. Do not over bake! Remove from oven and cool on parchment sheets or wire racks.

Throughout high school and well into my twenties, most jobs put my body through the ringer on a daily basis. Back then, I didn't care about natural ingredients or organic foods; I do now. And that's the principle behind my Builder's Bar. It's an entirely natural protein bar for those who put their own body through the ringer. The Builder's Bar contains 20 grams of whole proteins. Without hydrogenated oils or trans fats, the Builder's Bar is a cut above many other protein options. And with its distinctive crispy, chewy texture, I hope you'll find them more delicious, too. Enjoy! 35% Organic ingredients.

Protein: The Immune System Booster

Nobody likes to have their training derailed because of a cold, flu, or fatigue. Because protein is essential for producing red blood cells and antibodies that resist infection, Clif Builder's Bars can help you get the amount of protein you need to stay in the game.

About Clif Bar & Company: Sustaining People and the Environment

Clif Bar & Company is committed to creating delicious, organic foods that are healthy for people and the planet. Clif knows that growing a healthy community, taking care of employees, and improving the environment are the only ways to operate a healthy, honest business.

As a food company, Clif understands that it has a responsibility to help create a more sustainable food system. Clif aims to reduce its ecological footprint, from the field to the final product. Committed to adopting practices that support sustainable agriculture, Clif is moving toward zero waste, reduction of its climate footprint, and conservation and restoration of the natural resources and ecosystems that we all depend on. Clif's goal is to grow a business that operates in harmony with the laws of nature, and to learn from and share with others along the way.

Natural Protein? Naturally!
Protein comes from both plants and animals, but not all protein is created equally. The protein found in Clif Builder's Bars is free of antibiotics, hormones and genetic modifications, giving you a valuable investment in your total body health.

So while an extra lean top sirloin steak or an organic chicken breast are great sources of protein, it's not always convenient to throw those in your briefcase or gym bag. That's why it's helpful to have a Clif Builder's Bar on hand as a portable source of great-tasting natural protein that has ingredients you know and trust.

Make Protein Work Harder For You
Staying healthy boils down to two simple ingredients: regular exercise and proper nutrition. Being active and eating healthy foods are no-brainers, but all too often people overlook the importance of getting enough protein in their diets. Virtually every part of your body needs protein to stay healthy, and when you work out, you especially need protein because your body is breaking down and repairing tissue.

The best time to grab a Clif Builder's Bar is within 30 minutes of completing a workout or competition--the protein helps your muscles recover quickly and gets you ready for the next training session. More protein also helps your body repair cuts, wounds, strains, stress fractures, broken bones, and other problems, which shortens the time you'll be on the sideline.

Build Your Brain with Clif Builder's
Have a big meeting coming up? Need to write a report? Grab a Clif Builder's Bar and get the brain boost you need to make it through. The protein in the bar helps keep your brain working properly. Brain cells talk to each other via messengers that are made up of amino acids, the building blocks of protein. Therefore, what you eat affects which neurons will be firing, and that in turn affects whether you'll feel energized or sluggish.

Optimum Nutrition 100% Casein Protein, Cookies and Cream, 4 Pound Overview

Sometimes slower is better - especially when it comes to the rate of protein digestion. While rapid protein absorption is desirable immediately before or after exercise, delayed release is probably more beneficial throughout the remainder of the day. Casein proteins are pH sensitive and gel in the acidic environment of the stomach. As a result, it can take more than twice as long for caseins to be broken-down into their amino acid subcomponents than whey and other proteins. Because of their unique time-released qualities, caseins are aptly described as anti-catabolic or muscle-protecting proteins. Beyond The Basics 24 g Instantized Blend of Slow-Digesting Casein-Based Proteins Rich in Highly Anti-Catabolic Micellar Casein* Over 9 g of BCAAs, Glutamine, and Glutamine Precursors per Scoop Only 3-4 g of Carbs

Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard 100% Casein offers the slow-digesting protein essential for facilitating muscle recovery and preventing muscle breakdown. Rapid-protein use is desirable immediately before and after exercise to help refuel recovering muscles. However, delayed digestion and absorption may be more beneficial at other times, including bedtime, when your body typically goes for hours without food. Casein proteins are acid sensitive and thicken in the stomach. Because of this, it can take more than twice as long for Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard 100% Casein to be broken down into its amino acid subcomponents than other proteins. The industry's first all-micellar casein provides sustained-release amino acid support.
